Car Insurance Jackson Mississippi
Reader’s Question:
My 19 year old son lives in GA with her father and I have insurance in Mississippi. I wanted to buy my son a car for graduation and want to get him insurance. My insurance provider doesn’t offer it. How can I get insurance for my son?

If the car you will buy for your son will be titled and registered in his name only then with most insurance provider, he will be the only person who can get insurance on the car.
However if the car will be in your name and your son’s name, then an insurance provider in Georgia should be able to insure the vehicle for you and/or your son. You will probably not find a carrier domiciled in Mississippi that will be able to afford coverage for a car garaged in Georgia.
Since the vehicle is going to reside and be garaged in Georgia, regardless of whose name is on the title, it will need to be registered there. Car insurers must be licensed with the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to be able to issue Georgia auto insurance policies.
I recommend that it is easiest to help your son find insurance in Georgia and set up the policy in his name. Once the insurance policy is set up you could assist his with the payments.
