Reader’s Question:

I live in Mississippi and want to insure my vehicle but I have a German driver’s license. Is it possible to get an auto insurance policy under these conditions?

Jackson, MS

Even if it it is possible to get an auto insurance policy with your German driver’s license, you will need to get a State license, from Mississippi in this case, to keep the insurance in force. This would be true of most any insurance providers.

The MS Department of Public Safety states that if you are a non-citizen of the United States you must meet all other requirements for getting an operator’s license or identification card except for providing a social security (SSN) card. The identification or license card will be valid for one (1) year from date of issuance.

You must present valid immigration papers, including a passport, I-94, birth certificate, proof of domicile and alien resident card (if you have one) in order to apply for a MS driver’s license.
